I purchased this laptop even though it far exceeded my budget. I just wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. Honestly, I had planned on returning it if I found any fault with it in any whatsoever. I had read that the battery cannot be replaced, RAM could not be upgraded and the SSD was not replaceable by users. Well, I have not returned it and have absolutely no plans on returning it whatsoever.

The battery can be replaced as well as the RAM can be expanded and the SSD can also be upgraded. Albeit, not as easily as one would hope but easy enough as the manual walks you through it step by step. I've even found a battery replacement online that costs $120.00. Since there is only one Memory slot you can upgrade to 8GB and Amazon has a 8GB SODIMM that works for $51.99. Again, this takes some work and as the memory is not easily accessible.You can easily download the "Maintenance and Service Guide" from the HP website. There is even a link in the "Help and Support" link in the Start Menu.

This little laptop has far exceeded my expectations and is simply the best laptop I've ever purchased or received from an employer. It easily gets 5 stars. I could go into all the finer details but others here have taken care of that.

As far as the cost... After using this computer the cost is justified and when you really compare it to other Ultrabooks the price is a little more expensive but very competitive.

I like this laptop.It seems very fast and the SSD helps the performance, I wish I had a SSD on my desktop.

PROBLEM:1. The screen doesn't angle back very far.I would like to open the screen further on occasion.

POOR SUPPORT:It came with Norton Internet Security pre-installed.However, it expired about a month after I got it.It was supposed to be a 2 year "free" subscription but it was NOT.I contacted HP support by email, web and phone and they were absolutely NO HELP.They wasted my time and seemed clueless.For example, the subscription required a 25 digit code and one time the MAILED me (snail mail!) a 19 digit code to use.I kept up the dialog with them for about two months and they eventually wore me down and I gave up on the Norton product and installed the Avast (free) anti-virus.I have no explanation as to why this was such a difficult problem for HP to resolve.That has left me with a tainted view of HP customer support and hence the 3 star rating.I think the hardware is worth a 5 star rating but the support drops the rating for me.
Another support issue was figuring out how to use the keyboard.Initially I could not figure out how to do Home/End and Page Up/Down and contacted HP support.They were completely inept and could not tell me how to perform these tasks.I eventually figured out there is a special function key that has to be used to perform these functions.It is awkward in my opinion.However, the HP support didn't know how these basic features worked.Another bad impression of HP support.

One of the best tech investments I have ever made, no joke. I wish this was still available so I could recommend it to others. "JCEL" Joe's review basically covers any questions you could have about this laptop. I've had it for a year and a half now and it has been consitently excellent, fast, and easy to operate. It's great for gamers, professionals, musicians, etc.

Let me list the very few things I dislike:

- the hardware doesn't have a CD/DVD drive; you would need to purchase an external one
- Software-wise, I'm not a fan of Norton (hellloooo buggies) and as it comes pre-installed on HP products, I wasn't super happy to see that. This, and other software, are easy enough to uninstall though.
- audio recording software is complete crap
- one other complaint is the low-ish level of RAM, but that's easily fixable by a USB drive for iTunes or whatever.

To wrap it up, an excellent investment. I've never felt inclined to throw it out the window, as I have with other laptops heheh. I 100% recommend it.

I have used an HP desktop for years.My present "unit" is an HP p6210y which has been souped up.Three years ago I purchased
an ASUS 10.6" notebook for travel and other occasional use.In early May 2013, I broke my leg/ankle, had signicant surgery and have been in a non-weight bearing state with respect to one leg since.My ambulatory status will continue to be inhibited until July 2013.

Well, gettiing to my desktop is now extremely difficult.My ASUS' screen backlight went out and its repair would have cost more than a new notebook.I ordered the ENVY referred to above, used a friend's Apple Macbook for two weeks, worked out most of the Mac OS oddities, and received the ENVY SPECTRE.Wow, it has blown me away in every regard.I love it.Having read hundreds of reviews of the ENVY 14-3010 NR SPECTRE I must say that I agree with all positives that I have read and disagree with 99% of the negative reviews.

Simply put, I'm crazy about this unit.I'd go batty, being a 70 year old temporary recuperating invalid, without access to a great computer.This one far exceeds my expectations.
