I researched laptops for a month before I bought my ASUS G75VW-DS72.I'm a video shooter/editor and I was tired of the lags and skips on hi-def AVI files.I ordered the ASUS from Amazon and hoped for the best. I received it it the mail five days before I expected it.
WOW did I do some awesome research. This laptop is SCREAMING FAST. My previous laptop was pretty fast, it rendered a 10 minute DV-AVI in about 20 minutes. My new ASUS renders the same 10 minute video in less than 2 minutes!POW!
I won't miss the bluescreen of death once a month that I'd come to expect with my previous model (VAIO).No disrespect, my VAIO was a real pal, a trooper that got me through MANY edits, but its newest reviews didn't impress me.
I am so happy with my new ASUS that I render movies I don't even need...just to watch the progress bar fly to the right. This laptop was clearly designed for gamers, but it's perfect for my video productions.
I have found all pros and no cons with my new ASUS.There is much joy in my heart each time I lift the lid.
I received this laptop yesterday and was drooling to get it out of the box and fired up.I was immediately impressed with the looks and feel of this machine.I got the battery loaded, plugged it in and turned it on.I then went through all the new startup menus and got to my desktop, so far so good as I was loving everything about it.Then, once I started playing with all the cool programs preloaded by ASUS, the trouble started.I kept getting a screen blanking and message saying that my video driver recovered from a failure or something along those lines. So, I thought, I probably need to update the drivers and all that normal new computer stuff.Once I got to NVIDIA's web site, I come to learn that the graphics card in this machine doesn't have any drivers out for it yet!!!HUH?Yep, NVIDIA put out the GTX 670M graphics card with no extablished drivers for it.After reading the forums, there is still no date given for when the drivers will be available. They have the drivers for the Linux OS but not for Win 7/XP. So, those of you that are wanting a "turnkey" system right out of the box will be dissapointed as I was to discover that you will have to wait an undetermined amount of time for drivers to support the card in this laptop. As it sits now, can't even play the current games on the lowest video settings without screen blanking and even blue-screen/system restarts.I'm sure that once the drivers are out, this system will be a gamer's dream but till then.......I'm keeping my finger's crossed.
UPDATE:Today is 6/28/2012 and I just got my laptop back from ASUS after sending it to them on the 19th.IT IS A FREAKING BEAST !!!!.They replaced the GPU in the system as the original one was obviously bad.Now it is running great with none of the issues I was having before with the screen blanking and driver recovery popup notices.I have only run the Windows Experience Index so far as I haven't downloaded a benchmark tool yet but it gave me 7.4's on both of the graphics tests where before it was only giving me 1.0's.I'm currently installing SWTOR on here and am excited to see how the game plays on maxed settings. So far everything about this system now seems to be exactly as I had hoped it would be when I ordered it.I now can only hope that the ssue I had with the GPU was a limited fluke in just a few of those cards and the rest of the machines out there are just fine.I'll post a new update once I've run some different games with maxed setting and let you games know how it performs....but so far it looks like it will be just as all the other reviews are that you can find on YouTube for this system.
I read a great deal on this laptop and most reviews were negative with freeze-ups, bluescreens of death and no drivers for the vidio card....Awsome machine, well constructed, chicklet back lit keyboard, sounds good (not great) more memeory on the vidiocard than most laptops have period. I have played games with no slow down or freezing. I have streamed movies not only on the laptop but through the laptop to the TV. No connection problems with my wireless Netgear router nor my bluray player. Wish the battery lasted a bit longer but in game mode with back lighting on dosen't last more than 2 hours. (buy a 2nd btry). Overall if you are not into the laptop for gaming you need much less than this for alot less bucks but if you want THE machine and do not want to spend the bucks on aleinware, or MSI then you may want to consider the ASUS. This is my 7 month update, Still impressed with this monster. The fans remain quiet even after all this time. Glad I ignored the initial reviews I would buy this again with no hesitatation what-so-ever!
I bought one of these in Oct 2012.It can me in two days instead of the 4 they said it would take (nice) and was left sitting on my doorstep in plain view, with a shipping label attached that actually listed the entire package contents!I'm amazed that it was still there when I got home! What would have happened if it was just gone and I never got it?No signature to receive a $2K item?Ok.
Out of the box it worked well.In fact, for exactly one year, it worked well. The only issue with it was that the "subwoofer" is notoriously difficult to use.The sound is greatly enhanced with it active, but it is not controlled by the main system volume control. If you plug in headphones, the subwoofer still plays sound, so you have to go into your sound device settings and manually turn it down.Super annoying when you want to rip out the headphones to show something to someone. You have to go reset the subwoofer volume EVERY TIME.
In Sept 2013 the real fun began. The laptop now just freezes up randomly. It doesn't matter what it is being used for.It isn't reliable.Safe mode is the only reliable way to use the laptop, which is useless because you can't use sound or video drivers in safe mode. When I was first researching this laptop I didn't find anything about this issue. Now that I am experiencing it, I am seeing forum posts everywhere about this issue with ASUS laptops, though most don't seem to have the extreme problem that I am having.
The laptop will freeze up during the boot process, making recovery impossible.Every attempt to reinstall windows is met with failure.Restore isn't able to finish because the crap machine won't run for more that a couple minutes (which is a long time) without just locking up.The four recovery discs the machine demands you burn don't do anything at all no matter how I try to use them; pre boot, triggered from menu,
When I first got it, I would have recommended it to anyone. Now that I've had the pleasure of using it for a while, I would never buy another ASUS product, nor would I suggest anyone else to even consider it.Search google for "ASUS laptop freezes randomly" and you will see thread after thread of people having these problems with ASUS machines.
TL;DR - Piece of crap machine that is going back to the factory
This purchase through Amazon was a first for me because of all the 'bad knocks' about being stuck with junk purchased on/through the Net,in general. Purchasing through Amazon was a GREAT experience and 'yes' I would do it again.
The product. What can I say,ASUS (in my mind is GREAT)and they certainly didn't let me down with this one. The wieght of it made me adapt an 'apposing corners' handling/lifting the Laptop. When I picked it up by the sides I popped the gard off the DVD player but managed to pop that back in place. The only other thing I have noticed,to date,is the installation of five(5) Control Active X programs, all the same Product Version from MS Corp. BUT none of them in English. MS Corp. should be able to answer this question.
I'm off to visit family and friends in AB & SK for a week or so and I'm quite sure it will be tested when my Grandson gets his mits on it.
Have a GREAT day and give it your 'all',unless you have to go to the Bank for a loan to do it.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Style: 1TB | Nvidia GTX 960M w 2GB VRAMVerified Purchase
I purchased this due to a major payment mixup by Amazon on a purchase made of a GL551 which also was defective.See that review here: https://www.amazon.com/review/R1WHIFFEY21CBH/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm .
This laptop has been excellent so far.I am writing this on Day 1 of owning it, so there will potentially be updates to come.Enough about that, let's dive in!
Externals: The laptop is a very nice aircraft-gray brushed-aluminum look on the exterior. It is nowhere near as bad a fingerprint magnet as its predecessor (GL551), but it is still quite the magnet on the inside/keyboard/trackpad area. The plastic on the bottom has an engraved "futuristic" design, and offers easy access to user-serviceable internals (SSD slot, HDD, memory). The keyboard offers the same backlighting as the GL551, with pronounced lighting on "WSAD" keys for gamers. The chiclet keyboard has a very nice feel and is easy to type on.As a lover of mechanical keyboards, the chiclets give a nice tactile feedback while not being too "laptop-ish" like a Macbook Pro or other laptop. This has a similar feel to higher-end non-mechanical short-throw/wireless/portable Logitech keyboards. It does include a full range of keys including the ever-elusive "delete, prt sc, pause, home, pgup, pgdn" keys that often are missing from laptops.A full-featured numpad and function keys are included as well.
Internals: The specification list is somewhat iffy on Amazon's page. This DOES NOT have a 1TB SSD.It is a 1TB 7200 RPM mechanical HDD.If you opt for the DH74 model, an M.2 SSD is also included. This one does not have an SSD, but has the slot for a user to add an SSD if they so choose.
With older models (I'm looking at you GL551), in order to achieve 16GB of RAM, you had to buy an extra module, this laptop comes with 16GB DDR4 clocked at 2133mhz.As mentioned, it also has 1TB of HDD space, split into 2 partitions, OS and Storage. After partitioning/file system/recovery, the OS partition has 371GB of space, the Storage partition has 558GB of space. An optical drive is also included still (unlike many laptops now). This is a DVDRW drive, supporting all CD/DVD media...it is NOT a bluray player/burner.
Graphics: This laptop sports a GTX960M (not the 4GB model, but the 2GB) which is more than fine to play most any game at high-ultra settings, including, but not limited to: Elite:Dangerous - Horizons, Fallout 4, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 & 3, Guild Wars 2, and others.
Also included (thanks to the processor) is the Intel HD 530.This particular little guy is what is causing me to give this laptop four stars, as it will be a tremendous pain for anyone purchasing a Skylake-based laptop on Windows 10 with default manufacturer drivers as it causes rapid crashes and recoveries, blue screens, and flickering/black screens. The driver Asus includes is made for Windows 8 and the Insider Preview for Windows 10.Asus has since updated their driver on their support page (still not the latest Skylake Intel HD driver, but it fixes the issues), and you CAN use the generic Intel driver from Intel's page...but both of these options will have you pulling your hair out unless you know the work around, as both of these options give an error "This driver is not verified for your device" when you try to install them.
*****HERE IS THE FIX!!!***** (Links to both Asus' site and Intel's site in comments, Amazon wouldn't allow external links in the review)
You can download either the updated Asus driver from their support website (slightly out of date) or obtain the most recent Intel driver; both will work to solve the crashes/inconsistencies.
Download either of these, and extract them somewhere easy to remember (Desktop or Downloads folder is fine).DO NOT INSTALL THE SETUP.EXE, THIS WILL NOT WORK!
Instead, click on the start button (or hit the start button on your keyboard), and type "Device Manager".After typing the first few letters, you should see it populate in the list on your Start menu and be able to either hit enter or click on it.From there, click on the little ">" next to "Display Adapters", right click on "Intel(R) HD Graphics 530" and click on "Update Driver Software".This will bring up a new dialog box.In this box, click on "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".Do not Search or Browse, but instead click on "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".Once this window is up, don't click on any of the suggestions it gives you, instead click on the "Have Disk..." button on the bottom right.NOW in this window, you click on "Browse", then navigate to where you extracted the driver package you just downloaded from either Asus or Intel. There will be a folder in your download named "Graphics", open that up, and you're going to want to point this installer to the file "igdlh64.inf".Click on Open, and proceed to install the driver this way.If your computer prompts you to restart, please do.If it does not prompt you to restart after installation, do it anyway. NOTE: This will be the only time you will have to update the Intel HD driver in this manner, from now on you will be able to install both the generic ones and the Asus ones via the install .exe as intended. This will fix your Windows 10 Intel HD related crashes and instabilities.
That's it for this review, enjoy, good luck, have fun with a very solid, very quiet, very cool (except on the left side by the ventilation...holy moly, it keeps my coffee warm) laptop.
UPDATE 4/8/2016: This laptop is nothing short of amazing for the money.I now use it regularly in conjunction with a
Hauppauge - HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition High Definition Game Capture Device for my Twitch stream (shameless plug: twitch.tv/phydeaux86) to capture gameplay from my desktop PC, PS4, & Xbox One.When I'm not using it for streaming and recording...which it handles like a champ...I have also started playing more recent games like Tom Clancy's The Division...which also runs flawlessly.(Again, also using other apps such as Discord, Skype, OBS, DXtory, Steam, etc. simultaneously.)
UPDATE 7/25/2016: Nothing but positives to give this laptop.I have still delayed in getting an m.2 SSD for this (although a friend who bought the identical model has one, and the boot time is insane), yet it runs amazing.I have barely touched my desktop due to owning this laptop.I have even been playing DOOM on medium-high settings at 1080p on this.Granted, I'm not a 144hz/300fps/0ping PCMR gamer...so there ARE some frame drops in this hefty of a game, but I average a good 40ish FPS while playing at these settings, more when not streaming.So...as a final update...yes, this thing can hold up to games like DOOM while streaming at 1080p/30fps to Twitch!!
UPDATE 8/25/2016: Still going strong, still haven't swung for the m.2 SSD, I really want to one of these days...I've seen what the boot time is like with one...and I'm jealous. My poor desktop is starting to get dusty!I am now running No Man's Sky on medium-high settings with some graphics mods (removing vignetting/abhorration, and 2x resolution patch), streaming to Twitch, and playing via my SteamLink on my TV via this single laptop.Amazing, amazing, amazing.I would not be able to achieve this performance with another laptop without spending almost 2x as much as I did for this one.Very highly recommended in my book!

I'm going to start with the cons as they are the most prominent aspect of this laptop:
1. I've had to open the keyboard part of the laptop multiple times due to an issue with the touchpad. When I first tapped it, it made a clunking sound. A silly but annoying thing. Turns out this is a manufacturing defect, as when you open it, you can see they placed a strip of tape to cover the space between the pad and the holding part. This wasn't a proper fix, as I had to put multiple layers of tape in various places below the pad to cover the space. To get rid of the sound, I had to put so much that now the keyboard area (not the keys itself but the layer surrounding the keyboard) rises slightly above the bottom encasing part of the laptop. Again, silly but annoying. And most bothersome of all is the fact that the user needs to do this due to the manufacturer's solution falling short. 2. The keyboard area is a total fingerprint magnet. I need to constantly use the cloth included as it is constantly smudged by hands and fingers. The texture feels nice and smooth, but it always ends up looking dirty. 3. The battery sucks. You'll be lucky to get 45 minutes, maybe, out of it. And that's with lowering the screen brightness down considerably. 4. When you plug in headphones, sound will be muted when you remove them. You have to plug the headphones in again and then remove them to get the sound back. 5. The power button is for whatever reason incorporated into the general keyboard layout, so careful as you might press it accidentally. 6. The mute/volume up/down buttons that work with the f number key should be better arranged. The f number key is to the left, and the sound buttons are to the right. This requires you to always have to use both hands to modify these settings (unless you have incredibly long fingers). To the left of the sound buttons are ones that are rarely if ever used, such as the disable touchpad, turn off screen, and airplane mode buttons. Poor design. 7. Saved the worst for last. The cd/dvd drive does not work. Never has. This laptop is marketed for gamers, and I have never been able to try the full strength of this machine due to this inexcusable fault. I actually use the laptop for everything in general as it's my main computer, so this doesn't hinder me as much as it might someone who will have bought it exclusively for gaming, but nonetheless, it is unbelievable that I have to invest more money to fix something that never even worked, not once.
Having gotten all that out of my system, just working on a day to day basis with the laptop I can appreciate the power within it. It has great specs, and should satisfy anyone looking to be on the edge of tech right now (though higher tier options are available). It looks beautiful, with the silver (I have the hard top version), black and red design. The red-lit keyboard is beautiful, and it feels great too. Having said that, I probably got too lured visually by the machine, and I'm paying the price. Aside from the huge issue with the cd/dvd drive, the cons are all relatively minor things that could be worked on to deliver an all-round quality product, but they all just pile up to create uncomfort here and there.
All in all, if the minor things were resolved (not even necessarily all of them) and the cd/dvd drive had always worked, I would definitely recommend this laptop, but unfortunately, I cannot. I will update this review when I get around to fixing the cd/dvd drive issue and I can tap the full potential of this computer, but until then, proceed with caution.
Update: The laptop is now sometimes turning off by itself. In the same way a tv turns off when the lights go off. Completely sudden. It's been happening when the charge is around 15%. No battery warning, nothing. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER!!!

This computer works very well for a year, than the motherboard (according to my engineer husband) broke. I buy it the february 23, 2017 and it brokes the february 26, 2018. 3 days off warranty, so ASUS don’t want to replace it and charge me 800$US to repair it. Too, as I bought it on amazon, ASUS said that my bill is not valid cause it does not have the ASUS logo on it and they don’t take “virtual” ( electronical) bill.
Thank you ASUS, you have so much quality in your products and service. I will never buy a ASUS again.

This laptop is amazing! The booting up is really fast, and it can run everything; it's amazing for the price. People buying this laptop should be aware that it is fairly bulky (it sure isn't a mac-book), and has a really short battery life. I found that at power saving settings (not minimum but slightly lower than default) it can last for a decent amount of time (I would estimate 5 hours). This laptop can maybe play games for about 2 hours, or if you are a player of Overwatch about 5 games, and for people who play League of Legends, about 2 games. The wireless card is unbelievable on this laptop, I was out in the country on a friends WiFi getting 30 ping, and at my place where the average ping is 50, I get about 40 on this laptop. The 16 gigs of RAM is really helpful if you like to sit around with many tabs open, or do any photo/video editing. The lights on the keyboard are beautiful, and make it really easy to type anywhere (for example in the dark). The keyboard doesn't feel crowded at all (in fact I really like it), and the LED's can easily be turned down or off. The viewing angle on the screen is insane, I could tilt the screen all the way back and as far forward as possible (to where I can still see the monitor), and be able to read an entire essay. One downside is the HDD, which makes it dangerous to move while the laptop is running, and the laptop runs pretty warm. If you are going to have a gaming session with this computer, it may be beneficial to invest in an external fan so you don't burn your lap, but for everyday use the temperatures are fine! One last thing! You NEED TO REINSTALL THE NVIDEA DRIVERS!!!!!! If you neglect this the laptop won't even run flash games (a slight exaggeration), however afterwards it can run most everything at medium to high settings. Overall the best laptop by far for the price!

Excelente equipo. Tal vez unos pesos por arriba de lo que debería costar. Venía con el problema del driver para evitar se congelara al entrar en suspensión. Lo corregí y ya funciona a la perfección.

Battery is terrible. If you use this laptop for what it's intended for, you'll be needing a lot of battery energy but unfortunately it needs a top up every 45-hour or so. The computer itself is durable build and material, runs a lot of software at once. The display is crisp and clear. No piercing glare. The speakers are average though, you'll need an external if you really want surround sound. It does come with CD port and the lights are only red but can be dimmed or turned off.
This is a great laptop for gaming and large software and will give you years of stable usage.
Have had somehardware issues. USB ports shorting out sent in and repaired. Now when it shuts down it won'tstart back up. Back in shop again! Thinking that I may have wasted $1800 on what is supposed to be a superior product. Oh, and the red backlit keyboard is really hard to see when the screen is on.
